The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020 came into effect today

These Regulations revoke and replace The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Business Closure) (England) Regulations 2020

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020 came into effect today and can be found here.

These Regulations revoke and replace The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Business Closure) (England) Regulations 2020 which I had previously written about and which announced the closure of various premises including restaurants cafés and pubs.

This article was written on 21st March 2020 and can be found here.

These Regulations expand on the previous ‘Coronavirus, Business Closure Regulations’ and order further premises to close including beauty salons, hairdressers and barbers.

They also clarify the position in respect of workplace canteens, which can now remain open where there is no practical alternative for staff at the workplace to obtain food.

The Regulations also now make law some of the additional measures the Prime Minister announced in his personal address on 24th March including:

  • The closure of non-essential businesses as listed and including those above;
  • The restriction on movement to essential movement only; including food shopping, obtaining medical supplies and once daily exercise; and
  • The restriction on public gatherings to no more than two people in a public place except in certain circumstances such as where it is members of the same household or essential for work purposes.
